Betting BasicsIt's hard to distinguish between betting stakes and betting paces. Betting stakes are the size of the bets and the raises that are permitted. Established house rules dictates what betting stakes are. Betting paces depend on the game played and the willingness of players to call the bet. In both cases, these bets determine how expensive the games are and how much money have been won or lost. How players bet determine their experience. For instance, a pro is rarely characterized as a tight player; but his betting pattern is almost always aggressive. This is because they are confident in their betting. New players are either too loose or too tight in their bets but they rarely play aggressively. A good player, by pushing it hard whenever he holds an advantage over investment odds, and quickly dropping against opponents with stronger hands would enable him to maximize his wins and minimize losses. So when a good player bets, its more than usual that his bets are aggressive. Because he knows that aggression quickens the betting pace in his favor, while a lopsided aggression creates confusion and fear in his opponents. As stakes increase in every round of betting, losses for poor players increases faster and the potential losses accumulated by the good player. For many authors that discuss investment odds, they suggest that steeper betting progression within a hand requires greater betting aggressiveness. Consequently, this allows a good player to bet with poorer hands. In short, any good player drives up the betting stakes and betting paces in a game. Moreover, they move steeper and steeper betting progression in a hand. The Betting Stakes This is mostly what players think about when they are playing the game. For example, in draw poker, the house established $25 as the maximum bet or raise in the first betting round. This increases to $50 as the game progresses. In stud poker, the maximum bet for the first upcard is $5, then this increases in $5 incremenrs on each betting round. The Betting Pace A good player should have an idea what the betting pace of both the game and his individual opponents. The betting pace is determined by a comparison of bets done on three hands. The player controls his offensive or defensive tactics by altering his betting pace at different stages of a poker hand. They should be aware of the betting, calling, raising and bluffing that goes on within the game and the size of the pot. |
